ARREST OF UNRULY STUDENT

Friday, December 3, 2021

CROSSVILLE, TN – On Thursday, December 2, 2021 Crossville Police Department officers were
dispatched to Cumberland County High School in reference to a disorderly juvenile student.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a student had threatened physical violence against staff
members and teachers, as well as the officers when they made contact.

The student would not comply with the officer’s attempts gain control of the situation stating
that “It would take all 5 [of them] to make an arrest.” The student, at 6’4” and approx. 240 lbs.,
had threatened violence and was fully capable of inflicting injury to staff, officers, bystanders
and ultimately to the student’s own person. After attempting to take the juvenile into custody,
and upon facing active physical resistance from the student, a Less-Lethal CEW (Taser) was
employed to gain control of the unruly student, lessening the likelihood of physical injury. The
student was lowered to the ground, where handcuff restraints could be applied and the student
was then able to be taken into custody without further incident.

Cumberland County EMS was called to the school, to ensure the student was not injured, prior
to transport to the Cumberland County Juvenile Detention Office. The incident is still under
investigation and due to the juvenile involvement, no other information can be released at this
time.
