COOKEVILLE — More than 150 citizens participated in a public input meeting Tuesday to kick off design plans for a Cookeville aquatics center. The next step is an online survey, which is available through Jan. 31.
“We had a great turnout at our public meeting,” Rick Woods, Cookeville Leisure Services director, said of the drop-in event at Cane Creek Recreation Center in which attendees placed stickers on display boards to indicate their preferences on a variety of outdoor and indoor aquatics center elements — everything from leisure pools to lazy rivers to splash pads. City staff, aquatics steering committee members and representatives from Lose Design and Water Technology Inc. were on hand to answer questions.
“We talked with many people who are excited about the prospects of a new aquatics center for Cookeville,” Woods said. “Over 150 people gave us their ideas and opinions, but if you were unable to attend, the survey is your opportunity to still participate.”

“It will give our citizens the opportunity to provide their input and help the city determine what type of aquatics facilities we need to build,” Woods said.
Lose Design will use data from the public input meeting and survey to prepare a conceptual design to be reviewed by the local steering committee and then prepare cost estimates based on that design.
A new aquatics facility was identified as the top priority in the city’s systemwide recreation master
plan completed in 2021.
