COOKEVILLE – Public input is welcome in a Cookeville aquatic center meeting Tuesday.
Attendees will be able to view display boards featuring a variety of elements for outdoor and indoor
aquatic facilities and then “vote” for those elements most important to them in a brief, come-and-go format from 4-8 p.m. at Cane Creek Recreation Center, 180 CC Camp Road.
Representatives from Cookeville Leisure Services, the local aquatic steering committee and Lose Design and Water Technology Inc. will be on hand to answer questions. “A new aquatics facility has been listed as the top priority in our last two master plans, including the most recent systemwide plan we completed last year,” Rick Woods, Cookeville Leisure Services director, said. “We have many area residents who travel out of town to have a family day at the pool every summer. We hope to remedy that with a new, attractive and appealing aquatics center here in Cookeville.”
Public input is needed to determine what type of aquatic center is most needed in Cookeville.
“There are many different interpretations of what an aquatics facility is; an outdoor water park with giant slides, an indoor competition pool, a leisure pool with a splash pad — all of those are aquatics facilities,” he said. “What features will we include? We are asking members of our community to tell us what their priorities are.”
After receiving the public input, Lose Design will prepare a conceptual design to be reviewed by the local steering committee.
“They will also prepare cost estimates so that we can evaluate what is feasible to build now and what we may need to put off to a later phase,” Woods said.
