The Cookeville Lady Cavs wrapped up a perfect 26-0 regular season with their dominant 82-33 win over Wilson Central on Friday.
“We’re pumped, we’re really excited,” Gillies said. “We talked about how no team at Cookeville High School has ever done this, so we’re really excited about where we are, but we’re not content…I told them enjoy it this weekend, and next week, we’re getting back to work.”
Accomplishing the feat on senior night made it a little more special for Gillies, as she’s spoken highly of her group of seniors and the work they’ve put in to get to this point.
“This group, they’re so special to me,” Gillies said. “They all started here as freshmen, and they stuck it out…I told them those who stay will be champions, and they have proved that. They want to keep going.”
The Lady Cavs will be the top seed in the District 9/AAAA Tournament later this week, and they will play the winner of Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central.
