White County Bounces Back In Win Over Warren County

Story by Greg Wilson

White County’s boys bounced back with a big 64-43 win over rival Warren County.

Although it was not a district game, it was a game that the Warriors needed to win to halt a three-game losing steak. With the win, the Warriors’ record improved to 13-8 on the season.

Leading the charge was junior guard Jakeb Davis, who started the scoring with a three-pointer early in the first. Davis scored 8 of his 22 points in the first quarter, while Tomas Paul added six of his own in the frame. At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were up 21-14.

The second quarter started slow, but the Warriors caught fire and put up 18 points, while they only allowed the Pioneers to score one field goal and two free throws. Davis hit the second of five three-pointers on the night, and Paul had three field goals to give him six points in the second. The Warriors outscored the Pioneers 18-4 in the second and took a 39-18 lead into halftime.

The third quarter had glimpses of the games over the past few weeks, highlighted by low scoring and missed shots that allowed Warren County to slip back into the game. However, two significant three-pointers by Davis paced the Warriors, as he finished with eight points in the quarter. Paul chipped in two free throws to keep a 20-point lead at the end of three quarters.

In the fourth, the Warriors and Pioneers traded baskets, and the Warriors won the quarter 15-14. Scoring for the Warriors were Davis with the last of his five three-pointers, Paul with 4, Japheth Richmond and Pinion with two apiece, and two free throws from Jeremiah Gardenhire and Javyn Strode in the quarter. The Warriors were pleased to see the scoreboard read 64-43 as time expired.

The Warriors travel to Livingston Friday night to take on the Wildcats in district play.
