The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers defeated the Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats 12-0 in softball action on Thursday night.

The Lady Cavalier offense started off slow, only scoring one run in each of the first and third inning. After that, the Lady Cavalier offense got on a roll and scored 10 runs in the fourth inning, making the final 12-0.

“They played really well and I am super pleased,” said CHS head coach Jordan Webb. “We had a good game Monday night. I was kind of curious with this being our second regular season game with what we were going to do, and we did everything very well tonight.”

Junior Emma Dulworth led the Lady Wildcats with one hit in two at bats. Senior Leah Kate Clark surrendered eight runs on five hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Senior Shelby Radford got Cookeville’s offense started by batting in the first run in the first inning. Sophomore Julie Martin scored in the third inning to increase Cookeville’s lead. To end it off on a high note for CHS, Freshman Kadie Presley hit a home run to drive in the last three runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Cavs rattled off 10 runs in the fourth inning.

“It was like one minute we were not putting a lot of balls in play, and then all of a sudden everyone started hitting more and getting bases,” said Webb. “I think it’s just one of those things where we are a pretty young team. It’s contagious when one person gets a hit or gets on base, and the others see that and it builds confidence.”

Sophomore Madison Lancaster surrendered zero runs for the Lady Cavaliers on one hit over four innings, striking out nine and walking one. Martin led in hits for Cookeville being 2-for-2 at the plate. The Lady Cavaliers did not commit an error through the four innings.

The Lady Cavaliers will travel to Sparta at 5 p.m. on Monday night, while the Lady Wildcats will compete in the Macon County Classic Friday and Saturday. On Friday they will play Macon County in the first game and Karns High School in the second game.

“I really like that we are having better at bats,” said Webb. “Especially when we have a count with two strikes on us, or it’s kind of a pressure situation. We are having good quality at bats and not just going up there and swinging at bad pitches or taking pitches for strikes. We are a tough out and if you do that then some hits will come, base runners will come, or you’ll have some big innings. I was pleased to see that tonight and want to keep seeing that where we are a tough put at the plate.”
