The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats swept the Cumberland County Lady Jets on Thursday night 10-7 and 16-7 in a doubleheader softball action.
In both games, the Lady Jets struck first to open the action. Cumberland County and Livingston both brought home seven runs by the third inning, but it was the Lady Wildcats who secured game one after bringing in three more runs for a final of 10-7.
Livingston rode their momentum into game two and finished strong, as they had three big innings. The Lady Wildcats had a combined 16 runs by the top of the fifth, while Cumberland only had seven. By the time the game ended, Livingston earned a 16-7 win and a sweep of the Lady Jets.
“We didn’t play very well, but we got the wins and that is what’s important,” said LA head coach Kacy Bennett.
Lady Wildcat Leah-Kate Clark pitched in both games for Livingston Academy. In game one, she allowed seven hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out three. In game two, Clark allowed nine hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one. Emma Dulworth had an inside the park home run in game one.
Lady Jet Kelsi Hodgson pitched in both games for Cumberland County, as she surrendered 10 runs on five hits over four innings with one strikeout. In game two, Hodgson allowed 11 runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Aubrey Ostrander started game two for the Lady Jets, and allowed four hits on five runs in two innings.
The Lady Jets will now turn their attention to the district tournament as they get set for their first-round game next week. Meanwhile, Livingston Academy will host Stone Memorial at 5 p.m. on Friday night for their last district game of the season.
“We have to have a better attitude and a better mental approach,” Bennett said.
