The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats rallied late, but fell in a tough 14-8 loss to Gordonsville at home on Monday night,
The Lady Wildcats jumped on the board first, as a grounder hit by Jazlyn Flowers was mishandled by the second baseman, allowing a run to score to make the game 1-0 in favor of LA.
Gordonsville went on a scoring spree after that however, as the Tigerettes scored eight unanswered runs to push the lead to 8-1 in the third inning. The bulk of their damage was done in that frame, as six runs came across the plate.
The Lady Wildcats then began the tall task of climbing back into the game. It started with a single run in the bottom of the third, and then Maddie Gaw blasted solo home run in the fourth to pull the score to 8-3. Leah-Kate Clark added an RBI single in the inning to cut the lead down to 8-4.
Clark also settled in at this point in the circle, setting down the side in order in the fifth to keep momentum in the Livingston dugout. They were unable to do anything with it however, and the game moved to the sixth inning with the same score.
There, Gordonsville finally broke through against Clark with two runs to push the lead back to 10-4. After LA got one of those runs back, the game was officially put out of reach in the top of the seventh when Gordonsville scored four times to run the lead up to 14-5.
Livingston put up a three-run rally in the bottom half of the inning, but it wouldn’t be enough and the Tigerettes escaped with a 14-8 victory.
Sabrina Garrett took the loss in the circle after pitching 2.1 innings of seven-run ball with one strikeout and seven walks, while Clark finished with 4.2 innings of seven-run (five earned) ball with three strikeouts and two walks.
Emma Dulworth led the way at the dish with three hits and five runs scored, while Clark finished with two hits and two RBIs of her own.
