Murphy, Tigerettes Shut Out Livingston Academy

The DeKalb County Tigerettes kept their season alive on Tuesday with their 8-0 win over Livingston Academy.

DeKalb got on the board quickly, as Morgan Walker and Aniston Farler each drove in runs in the first inning to give the Tigerettes a 2-0 lead.

The Tigerettes would add two more runs in the second inning, but Livingston starter Sabrina Garrett did a good job of limiting DeKalb for the next three innings. DCHS starter Bri Murphy matched her and then some however, as she put together one of her best starts of the season with a complete-game shutout.

DeKalb put the finishing touches on the victory with a four-run sixth inning, running the score to 8-0 and Murphy shut down the Lady Wildcat bats in the seventh to keep the Tigerettes’ season alive.

“I thought we swung the bats really well tonight,” said DCHS head coach Danny Fish. “Murphy was lights out in the circle, her stuff was really good and we played really good defense…you never know how you’re going to recover mentally after games like Monday’s.”

With the season on the line, Murphy tossed seven innings of three-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. She’s been solid all season for Fish, and she came up even bigger on Tuesday.

“Murph’s been really good all year,” Fish said. “She’s had success against Livingston this year. She’s 3-0 against them, and they’ve only scored one run on her…Livingston’s got some hitters that can give you some trouble, so she did a really good job.”

This sets up a 5 p.m. Wednesday date with the Upperman Lady Bees, and Fish says for his team to keep the season alive, they’ll need the same kind of mentality they had on Tuesday.

“Keep that sense of urgency,” Fish said. “Tomorrow, everyone’s playing for their last breath…all of those teams want to move on. There’s two spots and five teams left, so we’ve got to be willing to lay it all out there and see what happens.”
