After a neck-and-neck first half, the York Dragonettes used a dominant third quarter to defeat Stone Memorial, 72-39, in the first round of the Frank’s Shootout in Sparta.
York sophomore Reese Beaty led the Dragonettes in scoring with 21 points followed by Ellie Leffew with 18.
Stone Memorial led York Institute 9-3 with 3:21 left in the first period. The Dragonettes caught up to tie the game at 14 by the end of the opening quarter.
Stone Memorial stayed within striking distance in the second period, but it was York who pulled ahead to lead 26-23 at the break.
York’s halftime adjustments were effective as the Dragonettes dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 23-12 in the frame to lead 49-35 going into the fourth quarter. York cruised for the final eight minutes to win 72-39.
Both teams are in action again tomorrow in the Frank’s Shootout, time and opponent TBD.
