The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers notched their 6th consecutive win Saturday evening as they picked up a 65-42 victory at Stone Memorial.

Cookeville (6-1) picked up the season sweep of Stone Memorial as they defeated the Lady Panthers 66-21 on Nov. 22.

Jordan Gillies led the Lady Cavs with 24 points and 2 rebounds, followed by Allie Gillies with 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Cassie Gallagher had a balanced effort with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Nine Lady Cavs scored in the victory.

“We were able to get a lot of freshmen in there; I’ve got a lot of kids that can play,” said Cookeville coach Jamie Gillies.

Cookeville jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage and led 19-6 after one period. The Lady Cavaliers held their double-digit lead into halftime at 33-13 at halftime.

Stone Memorial found some life in the third period as they scored 18 points in the frame but still trailed 50-31. SMHS forward Kailee Waldo had 11 second-half points for the Lady Panthers.

“We didn’t communicate well on some screens in the third quarter and over-helped on some things,” coach Gillies said. “We need to make sure we’re not losing our man.”

Cookeville cruised in the fourth quarter to win by a final score of 65-42.

The 6-1 Lady Cavaliers will face one of their toughest tests to date Tuesday as they host Class AA runner-up York Institute, who currently sits at 5-1 overall.

“York’s good; we played them this summer and they beat us,” Gillies said. “The Beaty girls are as good as they come.”

Stone Memorial says in Crossville for their next game as they travel across town to face Cumberland County (6-2) on Tuesday in District 7AAA play.
