Lady Jets Bring Home Pensacola Beach Blowout Championship

The Cumberland County Lady Jets are leaving Florida with some hardware following their Pensacola Beach Blowout tournament championship victory Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Jets (13-2) have won nine consecutive games including two perfect 3-0 holiday tournament championships.

In Pensacola, Cumberland County defeated Woodmont (SC) 59-34, Heritage (AR) 55-38 and East Forsyth (NC) 60-38 to win their tournament division (Black).

Seniors Emery Baragona and Abby Houston along with sophomore Aliyah Hawkins were named all-tournament.

In their tournament opener against Woodmont, Houston led with 18 points along with 15 from junior forward Jalynn Baldwin and 12 by Hawkins.

Wednesday’s semifinal victory over Heritage saw Baragona lead with 21 points, followed by 16 from Baldwin.

In the tournament championship, Baldwin led the Lady Jets with 16 points. Baragona and Houston scored 12 each in the 60-38 victory.

The 13-2 Lady Jets return to the plateau for their next contest as they’ll host York Institute (13-2) on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
