Lady Jets Take Down Stone Memorial, 52-25

The Cumberland County Lady Jets picked up a District 7AAA win over cross-town rival Stone Memorial Tuesday evening, 52-25.

“The biggest factor for us was our level of focus and preparation,” said CCHS head coach Kim Cram-Torres. “It made all the difference; the girls knew exactly what we wanted to do defensively.”

Cumberland County junior forward Jalynn Baldwin led all scorers with 21 points.

“Jalynn has been executing her role almost perfectly,” Cram-Torres said. “She knew Stone’s post players were their strength, and she wanted to make an impact on this game offensively.”

Emery Baragona also hit double-figures with 13 points in the win.

Despite scoring only two points, Cram-Torres credits Tuesday’s 27-point win largely to the efforts of senior Johnson University signee Jorja Anderson.

“Jorja does so many things that never get in the stat column,” she said. “Her defense set the tone for us, and we need that from her all the time.”

Cumberland County jumped out to an 11-0 start capped off by a Baldwin and-one with 4:56 left in the first quarter. The Lady Jets led 17-5 after the first period and 28-10 at halftime.

CCHS stayed dialed in after halftime as they led 40-18 through three quarters before winning 52-25.

The Lady Jets improve to 7-2 overall and take a week off before playing in a holiday tournament at Heritage High School.

Stone Memorial will compete in White County’s Christmas tournament Dec. 19-21.
