By Michael Lindsay

The Webb School of Knoxville Spartans and Lady Spartans left Crossville with a pair of wins Thursday evening as they swept Stone Memorial.

Thursday’s games were originally scheduled for Friday but were pushed up a day due to the threat of inclement weather.

Stone Memorial stayed competitive through three quarters in the girls game before the Lady Spartans pulled away to win 64-45. In boys action, Webb took a 20-point lead in the first half en route to a 75-53 win.

GIRLS

The Webb Lady Spartans (11-5) picked up a 64-45 win over Stone Memorial (7-14) Thursday behind 22 points from Azyya Blair.

Stone Memorial was led by 12 points from junior forward Kailee Waldo.

The Lady Panthers came out of the gates hot as they took an 11-6 lead via a Lily Hinch three-pointer with 4:18 remaining in the first quarter.

Webb settled in from there as an 11-0 Lady Spartan run put them up 17-11 after the first period.

The Lady Spartans pushed their lead out to nine points, 35-26, at halftime.

Webb took control after the break as they outscored Stone Memorial 14-7 in the third period to take a 49-33 lead into the fourth quarter. Webb finished strong in the final eight minutes to win 64-45.

The Spartans used a strong defensive start to take a 17-4 lead over the Panthers after one period.

Stone Memorial quickly cut the Webb lead to eight points (39-31) early in the third quarter, but the Spartans’ red-hot night from three kept the Panthers at bay. Webb pushed their lead out to 53-38 by the end of the third period and held on to win by a 75-53 final.
