Only 16 Tennessee high school basketball teams remain in each classification following Tuesday’s region tournament semifinal conclusion.
Seven girls and four boys teams from the Upper Cumberland are among the last 16 standing in each class and will compete in region championship games Wednesday and Thursday before sectionals on Saturday and Monday with a state tournament berth on the line. Region championship winners will host sectional games while losers will travel to the other region’s champion. Potential substate matchups for each Upper Cumberland team are as follows:
Girls
Region 4-1A championship: Pickett County (20-9) vs. Clarkrange (23-11)
Potential sectional matchups:Â Whitwell (23-11) or Van Buren County (21-8)
Region 3-2A championship: Smith County (14-17) vs. York Institute (31-2)
Potential sectional matchups: East Nashville (23-7) or Community (24-6)
Region 4-3A championship: Livingston Academy (26-6) vs. Upperman (30-3)
Potential sectional matchups: Soddy Daisy (22-11) or Signal Mountain (26-5)
Region 5-4A championship: Cookeville (28-4) vs. Green Hill (16-15)
Potential sectional matchup: Brentwood (24-6) or Hillsboro (18-8)
Boys
Region 4-1A championship: Pickett County (17-12) vs. East Robertson (23-7)
Potential sectional matchups: Chattanooga Prep (24-9) or Van Buren County (22-8)
Region 3-2A championship: York Institute (23-10) vs. Watertown (12-19)
Potential sectional matchups: Cascade (27-5) or Pearl Cohn (19-8)
Region 4-3A championship: Stone Memorial (25-5) vs. White County (22-11)
