UCR Commentator Buddy Pearson Named New Communications And Marketing Supervisor At Putnam County Schools

From press release:

Putnam County, Tenn. – The Putnam County School System is pleased to announce that Buddy Pearson has been named the new Communications and Marketing Supervisor. Current Communications Supervisor, Hannah Davis, will be returning to Cookeville Regional Medical Center as the Director of Marketing and Communications where she spent 10 years before her arrival at the Putnam County School System.

“We are excited to have Buddy Pearson join us as the new Communications Supervisor,” said King. “We added the Communications Supervisor position to the school district two years ago as a support to share our school system’s story and lead communication efforts. The primary thought behind adding this position was to improve parent communications and help share the impressive talents of our students, faculty, and staff members. With Hannah’s leadership, we quickly realized the position was needed for so much more, including marketing and public relations. Buddy brings over 30 years of communication and journalism experience and knowledge to this position, and will be a great addition to our PCSS team and our school district. We are excited to have Buddy join us and continue helping improve district communications.”

Pearson brings with him a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Union University, a Masters of Science in Human Performance and Sports Studies from the University of Tennessee, and a Master of Arts in Journalism and Strategic Media from the University of Memphis.  Pearson served as the Managing Editor of the Herald-Citizen from 2007-2016. Joined the Marketing and Communications team at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) in May 2016 as the News and Communications Director.

In June 2021, Pearson departed from TTU to work in full-time ministry alongside his wife, Amy. He is an instructor at Tennessee Technological University, currently teaching journalism and communications classes.

Pearson has won many awards from the Tennessee College Public Relations Association for his podcast (Gold, 2021) and radio, TV show, and newscast (Gold, 2021) and Feature Writing (Gold, 2020).  Named Tennessee Sports Writer Association Sports Writer of the Year in 2003 and 2007, and many more additional accolades for his years in journalism.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity. Rarely does a job come along that you feel is a perfect fit. I believe this one is,” said Pearson.

“My wife, Amy, and I believe in public education. Our family has grown up in the Putnam County School System, so we have a deep appreciation for the administrators, teachers, coaches and staff. I feel honored that I get to work alongside these great folks, and get to promote PCSS in a positive manner.”

Buddy will begin at the Putnam County School System on Friday, March 31.
