The White County Warriorettes opened their 2023 softball season in impressive fashion Tuesday afternoon as the Warriorettes won at Cumberland County in two innings, 19-0.
“Coming into this year, we’re senior-heavy and a very experienced team,” said White County head coach Jerry Roberts. “I felt like we came out and that’s the best we’ve hit it.”
The Warriorettes racked up 9 hits in two innings, led by senior Abby Guy who went 3-3 with two runs scored.
White County’s Taylor Roberts went yard Tuesday as the third baseman hit a grand slam to center in the top of the first inning. Roberts went 2-2 with two runs scored, a home run, a double and 6 total bases in the win.
Warriorette pitcher Kamryn McLatchy recorded the victory Tuesday evening as she struck out 5 batters and gave up only 1 hit in the two-inning game.
“She’s going to be around the zone and she throws strikes,” Roberts said. “She threw it good, especially on a cold night.”
White County opened the game with 10 runs in the top of the first inning as Kylie Norvell, Abigayle Finan, Roberts and Guy each recorded hits in the frame. Roberts capped off the first with her grand slam to score Ashlynn Rohlander, Norvell and Ryleigh Burchett.
After shutting out the Lady Jets in the bottom of the first, the Warriorettes posted 9 runs in the top of the second inning to secure their 19-0 victory.
White County (1-0) is scheduled to host Upperman on Thursday.
“We’ve got Upperman at home on Thursday, and they’ve always been a top team in this district,” Roberts said. “It’ll be a battle.”
