Livingston Baseball Takes Down Macon County, 2-1

By Michael Lindsay

The Livingston Academy Wildcats started their week on the right foot as they defeated Macon County in District 7-3A play at home, 2-1.

“I’m tickled,” said LA head coach Jamie Loftis. “This is the first time in a district game we’ve come out and competed the way we’re capable of. We made all the defensive plays, and Carson threw great. We haven’t had timely hitting all year, and tonight we got it.”

Carson Parrott went the distance for Livingston on the mound as he gave up up 4 hits and struck out 7 batters in the win.

“He did great tonight,” Loftis said. “He threw a great game last week against Upperman, too. Tonight we had to have him and he stepped up.”

Macon County’s Jacob Hunt struck out 9 for the Tigers.

Macon County struck first as Hunt scored via a Braxton Loyd single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

Livingston Academy was held scoreless through the first three innings, but the Wildcats broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. An Andrew Goolsby bases-loaded single to left scored Tayshawn Hayes to tie the game at one run each.

LA took a 2-1 lead on the next at-bat as Ryan Campbell singled to right to score Dylan York.

Hunt worked out of the bases-loaded jam to limit Livingston’s damage to 2-1 after 4 innings.

Both defenses dialed in front there as neither team would put a runner in scoring position for the final 2.5 innings to seal Livingston’s 2-1 victory.

The Wildcats travel to Macon County tonight (Tuesday) for round two against the Tigers.

“Nothing different from tonight; we have to make the plays,” Loftis said. “Good pitching and good defense will keep you in the game, but you’ve got to have timely hitting.”
