DeKalb County senior Elishah Ramos took the next step in his athletic and academic journey on Tuesday, as he signed his NLI to play basketball at Bethel University.

Ramos is coming off a four-year career that saw him start at point guard for three years, and the lone year he didn’t he saw significant minutes as the backup.

Though he only coaches Ramos for just one season, head coach Joey Agee has seen the work Ramos has put in to get to this point.

“Elishah is a kid that has always been one to put in the work to get to this point,” Agee said. “He’s done a lot of things in the offseason on his own, and he’s taken private lessons and played a lot of AAU…he definitely deserves this, we’re just excited to see what he does next.”

As far as the fit with Bethel, Agee believes the atmosphere they offer is one that Ramos will be able to thrive and be successful in.

“It’s a smaller school, it’s a good educational institute,” Agee said. “He wanted to go somewhere smaller so he could have a good educational experience, so I think it’ll work out well for him.”

When it comes to replacing the production and skillset Ramos brought to the table for the Tigers, Agee knows it’ll be no easy feat finding someone else to fill that role.

Particularly on the ball-handling side of things, Ramos has left some big shoes to fill in Smithville.

“He could get himself out of situations and could break the press on his own,” Agee said. “He has some good scoring ability as well. He made a lot of tough shots at times when we needed them, but for us, replacing his ball-handling next year will be a big thing for us.”
