Macon County kept their District 7/AAA baseball tournament run intact Saturday afternoon as they defeated DeKalb County in an elimination game, 11-3.
Jordan Rogers led Macon County at the plate as the right fielder went 3-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Nate Green went 2-2 with 3 runs scored and an RBI also.
Braylon Flowers went the distance on the mound for Macon County as he struck out 8 batters while giving up 6 hits and 3 runs in 7 innings pitched.
After a scoreless first inning, Macon County struck first in the bottom of the second as a Rogers double to left scored Green to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
DeKalb County responded with 2 runs in the top of the third inning as Carson Donnell scored on a Brayden Carter ground-out and Andrew Dakas found home on a wild pitch to give DeKalb a 2-1 lead.
Macon County answered immediately in the bottom of the third as an Ely Malo single to center scored Hayden Dean to knot the contest at 2 runs each.
Macon County’s bats came to life in the fourth and fifth innings as they posted 8 runs over the 2 frames to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Green reached home safely in the third via wild pitch before a Braylon Flowers sacrifice fly scored Rogers and a Dean double scored Braxton Lloyd.
DeKalb County tacked on a run in the top of the fifth before Malo scored on a wild pitch to start the bottom half of the frame.
Singles from Green and Rogers along with a Macon County error allowed 3 more runs before Rogers scored on a wild pitch to put Macon County ahead 10-3 after 5 innings.
A Hayes Polston single to right scored Kaden Woodard in the bottom of the sixth inning for the game’s final run as Macon County defeated DeKalb County, 11-3.
Macon County is in action again Monday afternoon against Stone Memorial at 4 p.m. in Baxter. The winner faces Livingston Academy at 7 p.m.
