The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers took down rival White County 3-1 in a District 7-3A matchup on Tuesday night.
The Warriorettes of Sparta battled back-and-forth with Cookeville throughout the first set, as White County defeated Cookeville 26-24 to take a 1-0 lead.
“I told the girls that we had to pick it up,” said Head Coach Staci Wiegand. “We were asleep, dead on the court, and if they wanted to stay out on the court, then they needed to pick it up.”
The momentum shifted for Cookeville after this was said, as they won the next three sets, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-20.
“I liked the outcome and I think we really picked up our momentum,” Wiegand said. “There were a lot of things that we did not do that we could have. This night has gone a different way for us with the momentum, but overall, we came out on top.”
The Lady Cavaliers will host Wilson Central at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday night, while White County will travel to Lebanon on Thursday at 5 p.m. Both matches carry some weight, as each team remains in district play.
“White County has a really good blocking system and that riled us a bit,” Wiegand said. “I really want to move forward, and for us to be able to change the offense tactics.”
