Livingston Soccer Shuts Out Previously-Undefeated Hume-Fogg In 1-0 Victory; Mallori Lindsay Goal The Difference

By Michael Lindsay

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats picked up arguably their biggest win of the season Thursday evening as they took down previously undefeated Hume-Fogg, 1-0.

“I’m thrilled for them; we had some injuries in this game, but we were able to overcome that,” said Livingston head coach Heather Marshall. “We took down the #1 team in our division right now so we’re thrilled.”

Livingston Academy’s game-winning goal came within the first 5 minutes of action as a Tara Hinds shot was rebounded by Mallori Lindsay into the net to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead early in the first half.

“If we wouldn’t have got that so soon, we might still be sitting here at 0-0,” Marshall said. “For them to do what I’ve asked of them against this type of opponent, let’s go. We’re close to tournament play and we’re turning it up.”

The early goal would prove to be the difference as LA shut out Hume-Fogg, who was averaging nearly 5 goals per game entering Thursday.

“We still played a 3-back a majority of the game and still had a few breakaways, but on those Laney (Bowers) was able to make some incredible saves in both halves,” Marshall said. “We’ve had a lot of shutouts, but this one has felt the best.”

Livingston improves to 7-2-2 overall this season and is set to host Upperman in District 7AA play on Tuesday.
