Livingston Volleyball Wins Key District Matchup Over Upperman, 3-1

By Kailee Dick

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats won a District 7AA volleyball thriller Thursday night as they won at Upperman, 3-1.

The Lady Wildcats started off strong as they won the first set 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead.

Upperman then gained momentum in the second set as they took an 11-point lead en route to a 25-14 win in the set to tie the matchup at 1-1.

“We have great hitters but I do not have a Lila Cade,” said Livingston head coach Christie Jenkins. “We have moments of greatness, and I knew that if we didn’t come out swinging then we weren’t going to win.”

The Lady Wildcats responded in the third and fourth set, winning both. LA won the third set 25-13 and the fourth set 25-19 to win the key district match 3-1.

It was block central for the Livingston Academy defense. The blocks played a huge factor in the Lady Wildcats’ win.

“We worked on covering a lot yesterday,” said Jenkins. “When we were in Florida last week, we struggled at times, so we worked on our covering.”

The Lady Wildcats will travel to the Smoky Mountains for a weekend tournament before they host Smith County Monday night in a non-district matchup at 5 p.m. The Lady Bees will travel to Watertown at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

“To me, it is a blessing to win and I had a kid who played the whole night hurt. We leave in the morning for Gatlinburg, so I think the more we play the better we are going to be,” said Jenkins.
