The Smith County Lady Owls defeated the Jackson County Lady Blue Devils in a physical District 5A match Thursday night, 3-0.

“We had a lot of good movement, we did some things right, we also had some mistakes, but can always get better,” said Smith County head coach Nick Bussell. “We shot the ball well and we did what our thought process was coming into the game. Jackson County plays a very deep line and it is hard to shoot when you got 10 people in the box. We played good, had a good game plan, and dominated on defense.”

Smith County controlled the early portions of the game by scoring two goals in the first half to hold a 2-0 halftime lead. The Lady Owls tacked on one more in the second half. Goals for the Lady Owls were scored by junior Aubrey Felice, senior Brooklyn Sensabaugh and freshman Aubree Spain.

The Lady Owl defense pitched a shutout Thursday, their 6th of the season. Smith County has given up only one goal through 7 games.

“Brooklyn Sensabaugh did great holding down the middle and Chloe Gill did a great job with controlling,” said Bussell. “Our defense played fantastic; Abbey Williams shut down the middle, Aubrey Felice had a lot of good looks early on, and we also had a lot of good support players. It was a good team effort.”

Smith County will host Macon County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night while Jackson County will host Stone Memorial at 6:30 p.m.
