Upperman Volleyball Earns Senior Night Sweep of Cumberland County

The Upperman Lady Bees swept Cumberland County for a District 7AA victory on senior night Thursday, 3-0.

“This was a special night; this is the crew that started here with me,” said Upperman head coach Barbie Cook. “It was meaningful tonight for us to do what we needed to do here tonight because I know it was important to our district but also to our seniors.”

The Lady Bees opened Thursday’s game with a 25-13 with victory in the first set. Upperman won the second set Lady Bees 25-10 before taking the third set 25-8 to win the match.

Upperman seniors Kailyn Stevens, Kaitlyn Foster and Lila Cade had dominant performances against the Jets.

“Our seniors are very big for our team,” said Cook. “I say a lot about ‘team’ because that is what we do. I know we have great hitters, a great defense and other great things from individuals, but also putting it all together makes what is our team.”

With the regular season wrapping up at the end of next week, momentum is important to coach Cook.

“With that mindset, we knew that we had to get the job done,” said Cook. “That is what we have talked about in practice, and I told them that we are towards the end of the season and that this is the mindset you got to have at the end of the season and in districts.”

The Lady Bees will participate in Watertown’s weekend tournament on Saturday, while Cumberland County will host Smith County in the last game of the regular season next week.
