High school golfers from around the Upper Cumberland competed in the 2023 TSSAA Class AA State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the Sevierville Golf Club.
In the boys’ tournament, the Macon County Tigers fired a two-day total of 634 to finish seventh. Maddox Crowder led the Tigers with a two-day total of 145, including a tournament-best 65 in the second round to finish 13th overall individually. Jake Meador and and Mercer each shot 163 (79, 84). Hayes Polston shot 165 (85, 80). Tracin Parker shot 167 (84, 83)
Cookeville’s Brant Kardatzke and Owen Hill each competed as individuals. Kardatzke shot 152 (75, 77). Hill finished with a 163 (81, 82).
In the girls’ tournament, just outside UCR’s coverage area Warren County’s Lauren Slatton won the individual state championship with a 137 (68, 69). Slatton won by seven strokes as she cruised to the championship.
In the team competition, DeKalb County finished eighth with a team total of 360. Chloe Boyd led the team with a 176 (91, 85). Alison Poss fired a 185 (95, 90). Emily Anderson shot a 199 (94, 105).
Other athletes from the Upper Cumberland will compete in the Class A tournament held in Sevierville on Thursday and Friday.
