Trousdale County Picks Up Region Victory at Monterey, 28-0; Cole Gregory Records 387 All-Purpose Yards, 4 Touchdowns

The Trousdale County Yellow Jackets picked up their fourth win of the season Friday night in impressive fashion as they won at Region 3-2A foe Monterey, 28-0.

“We played our best football tonight,” said Trousdale head coach Blake Satterfield. “We have not played our best football in big games this year, and tonight, after a bad performance last week, our guys regrouped and played their best ball.”

Trousdale improves to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Region 3-2A competition with the win while Monterey falls to 4-4 and 1-2 in region play.

Yellow Jacket quarterback Cole Gregory posted a career day as he racked up four total touchdowns with 197 rushing yards and went 12-16 through the air for 190 yards. Defensively, Gregory recorded 12 tackles and an interception.

“He did a great job,” Satterfield said of Gregory. “He’s a best and left it all out on the field. Tonight, we saw three or four other guys and step and play with that intensity.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Trousdale County found the end zone with 9:50 left in the second period as Gregory threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jake Ferguson to take a 7-0 lead.

Monterey threatened inside the red zone with less than 30 seconds left in the second quarter, but a timely Trousdale interception held the Wildcats off the scoreboard and preserved their 7-0 halftime advantage.

The Yellow Jackets went to work early in the third quarter as Gregory connected with Ferguson again on a 71-yard touchdown strike with 7:08 remaining in the third period to take a 14-0 lead.

Following a Monterey punt, Trousdale County took over at their own 2-yard line late in the third quarter and put the game on ice as the Yellow Jackets reeled off a 21 play, 98-yard drive that took over 10 minutes off the clock capped off by a Gregory touchdown to take a 21-0 lead with 6:32 remaining in the game.

Trousdale found the end zone one final time late in the fourth quarter as Gregory broke loose on a 59-yard touchdown run to seal the 28-0 victory.

Monterey falls to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Region 3-2A play while Trousdale County improves to 4-4 and 2-2 in region competition.

The Wildcats hit the road to region foe Jackson County next week while Trousdale faces off against Clay County before their regular season finale with Westmoreland on Oct. 27 with a playoff spot on the line.

“Now we have to win our last game against Westmoreland to make the playoffs,” Satterfield said. “If we do, we’re a three seed, and that would be huge for our football program.”
