The York Institute Dragons and Pickett County Lady Bobcats are headed to the State Tournament as teams, as they each won region championships on Tuesday afternoon.
York shot 317 as a team, edging out Monterey (320) by three strokes, led by Carter Gibson’s 69. Gibson finished with the lowest score of the day as well, and was followed on the team by Jed Franklin’s 74. Heath Wattenbarger (85) and Landyn Smith (89) rounded out the team.
Monterey will send two individuals to the tournament, as Landon Raines shot a 72 and Garrett Wessels fired in a 76.
On the girls side, Pickett County followed up their district championship with a region title, as the Lady Bobcats shot a 178 as team. Kaycee Ludick paced Pickett with an 82, and Emma Buck shot a 96.
Individually, Jackson County’s Abigail Scoggins shot an 84 to clinch a spot in the State Tournament.
