The 2023 Mr. Football awards were handed out Tuesday morning in Nashville, where Macon County junior wide receiver Gabe Borders finished runner-up behind 4A winner KeShawn Tarleton from Pearl Cohn.
The do-it-all junior finished this season with 900 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground along with 38 catches for 697 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air. Borders also threw for two touchdowns on offense.
Borders also had three touchdowns and 633 return yards on special teams for a total of 2,269 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns. He contributed 46 tackles and two interceptions defensively.
Borders is no stranger to the Mr. Football ceremony as he was a semifinalist his sophomore season as well.
Macon County went 11-2 overall this season and reached the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
