DISTRICT 5-2A GIRLS SEMIFINALS: York Institute, Smith County Advance to Championship Via Victories Over Jackson County, Watertown

York Institute and Smith County will meet for a third time this season in the District 5-2A girls championship game Monday evening in Gainesboro as they won their respective semifinal matchups on Thursday by double digits.

York opened the evening with a 60-26 victory over Jackson County as four Dragonettes hit double-figures in the victory. Junior Miss Basketball finalist Reese Beaty led York with 16 points along with 12 from Emma Pile and 10 by Emma Cooper and Raylee Werner. Jalynn Meadows led Jackson County with 8.

Smith County ran away with a 56-27 victory in the second game over Watertown as sophomore Chloe Collins led the Lady Owls with 15 points followed by 11 from Airyn Enoch.

York Institute and Smith County are scheduled to play Monday night at 7:30 at Jackson County High School for the district championship while Jackson County and Watertown will play in the consolation game first at 6 p.m.
