The annual Alex Cassetty Classic is underway in Gainesboro as six teams converged onto Jackson County High School Friday afternoon for three baseball games.
Red Boiling Springs opened the afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Metcalfe (KY) followed by Macon County and Monroe County (KY) tying at 2-2. Livingston Academy won the Friday finale over Jackson County, 13-3.
Early offense was the difference for Red Boiling Springs as they scored all three runs in the first two innings in their victory over Metcalfe County. Aubrey Link opened the day by scoring via wild pitch in the top of the first.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the top of the second as an EJ Massey single scored Jared White followed by a Joseph Birdwell grounder to score Will Massey.
Macon County followed in game two as they tied with Monroe County, 2-2. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning via a Hayes Polston sacrifice fly. Monroe County responded with a run in the bottom of the second and fifth innings before the game was called early due to the tournament’s time limit.
Livingston Academy wrapped up the day with a 13-3 victory over Jackson County to improve to 9-2 overall this season.
Ten runs in the third inning were the difference for the Wildcats. Livingston opened the contest with a run in the top of the first and two in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Jackson County responded in the bottom of the third inning with three runs as as a Carter Collier grounder scored Brady Buck before a Cooper Kinnaird double scored Colby Mull and Collier.
Livingston answered with 10 runs in the top of the third inning as they racked up eight hits in the frame to take a 13-3 lead.
Zach Cotterman, Carson Parrott and Ryan Campbell each recorded two hits in the victory. Tayshawn Hayes went 1-2 with two RBIs as well.
