CARTHAGE – The Smith County Lady Owls used a fast start in the first inning to take down York Institute 15-0 in Carthage on Friday night.
After York failed to score on a first-and-third opportunity with just one out, the Lady Owls struck first on a passed ball that scored Avery Woodard. Madi Kemp then drove in Abby Woodard with an RBI double, and Shelby Bamford added on with a two-run single.
The damage continued as Anna Kate Sanders drove in another run with a single, and Cassie Mofield walked with the bases loaded to make the score 6-0. Avery Woodard added an RBI single of her own to run the score to 7-0, and Abby Woodard had the big hit of the game with her grand slam two batters later to make it an 11-0 game.
The Lady Owls finished the frame with one more run, and added three more in the second to take their final lead at 15-0, as they wrapped up the game early in the third.
Jackee Rigsby earned the win in the circle with three innings of shutout ball on just two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Abby Woodard led the offensive charge with a 2-2 day at the plate with six RBIs.
Smith County will take on Monterey on Tuesday on the road, while York Institute will battle the Lady Wildcats the day before on Monday.
