Nine-Run Third Inning Lifts DeKalb County To 11-2 Victory At White County; Kora Kilgore Strikes Out 13

The DeKalb County Tigerettes got back in the District 7-3A win column Wednesday evening as they picked up a victory at White County, 11-2.

“We had Upperman on Monday and took a hard loss, so coming back in today was about changing our approach at the plate,” said DeKalb County head coach Danielle Horton. “It was making small adjustments, and those make a big change.”

Zayleigh Bain and Bryna Pelham led the Tigerettes offensively as Bain went 3-3 with 3 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 stole base. Pelham went 3-4 with 3 doubles, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Gracie Randolph and Bri Murphy collected two hits each for the Tigerettes.

Tigerette pitcher Kora Kilgore recorded the victory for DeKalb County as she struck out 13 batters while surrendering 2 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

“Kora really comes out and grinds,” said Horton. “Her attitude affects everybody and they want to play behind her.”

DeKalb County opened the contest with a run in the top of the first inning as a Randolph single scored Bain to give the Tigerettes a 1-0 lead.

White County answered in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 via a Hannah Crawford bunt to score Jessica Wright.

The Tigerettes took control in the top of the third as they scored nine runs in the frame to take a 10-1 lead over White County.

Doubles from Pelham, Randolph, Elania Turner and Raylie Cowan along with singles by Murphy, Bain and Rylee Wilbur drove in the nine runs in the frame.

Each team scored a run in the fifth inning followed by a scoreless sixth. The game was called after six innings as DeKalb County won by an 11-2 final score.

Up next for DeKalb County is their fourth District 7-3A contest in four days a they travel to Livingston Academy at 5:30.

“You have to take it one day at a time,” said Horton. “We have to make sure the girls are getting rest. This is where the mental side of the game really comes in. You really have to buy in.”

White County is scheduled to host Upperman.
