Cumberland County High School senior Nolen Carter made his college plans official Friday morning as he signed with King University’s track and field program.

“I’m very proud of myself and excited that everybody came out and showed support,” said Carter. “I appreciate everybody coming out today.”

King University is an NCAA Division II program in Bristol and competes in the Conference Carolinas.

“I really like the area and the coaches gave me a warm welcome when I visited,” said Carter. “I fell in love with it from the start.”

Carter competes in multiple field events for the Jets and has competed in the TSSAA state track and field meet.

“I’m mainly going for high jump, but I’m also looking at doing some decathlon and multi-event deals,” said Carter. “I think I’m versatile and can compete in a lot of events. I need to get more experience and work hard every day to compete at that level.”

Carter wraps up his career in Crossville with the King University signing.

“It’s a great day to recognize a young man who’s worked hard and done everything right for our program,” said Cumberland County head coach Stuart Bowen. “It’s important for the other kids to see this; a kid that comes in every day and works hard. If you do those things, it gives you a chance.”
