DISTRICT 7-3A SOFTBALL TOURNEY: Upperman, DeKalb County Advance In Winners’ Bracket

Following nearly one week of rain delays, the District 7-3A softball tournament resumed Thursday evening in Baxter as the Upperman Lady Bees and DeKalb County Tigerettes advanced in the winners’ bracket while White County, Stone Memorial and Livingston Academy are set to face off in elimination games today.

DeKalb County opened the day with an 11-1 victory over Stone Memorial followed by Upperman’s 4-3 win over White County. The Warriorettes closed the day with a 16-4 victory over Cumberland County in an elimination game.

A six-run second inning was the for the Tigerettes in game one as they out-hit Stone Memorial 11-3 en route to an 11-1 victory in 5 innings.

Rylee Wilbur, Bryna Pelham, Kora Kilgore and Raylie Cowan recorded two hits each for the Tigerettes in the victory. Kilgore struck out 10 batters in the circle while surrendering only 3 hits in the victory.

Game two saw Upperman hold off a late rally to defeat White County, 4-3, as Lady Bee pitcher Reese Kimmel struck out 9 batters.

The Lady Bees scored a run in the bottom of the first and two in the third inning to lead 3-0 through 5 innings. The Warriorettes got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as back-to-back two-out singles by Jada Wright and Hannah Crawford scored Kylie Norvell and Hannah Poteet to make the score 3-2.

Upperman responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth as Kloee Garrett delivered a two-out single to score Felicity Little, giving Upperman a 4-2 advantage.

White County took advantage of an error in the top of the seventh to score a run, but it wasn’t enough as Kimmel struck out the final two batters to preserve Upperman’s 4-3 victory.

The loss sent the Warriorettes to an elimination game approximately 30 minutes later, where they defeated then Cumberland County Lady Jets 16-4 in 4 innings to advance in the tournament.

Upperman and DeKalb County will face off in the winners’ bracket on Friday at 1 p.m. followed by Livingston vs Stone Memorial at 3 p.m. and the winner of that game facing White County at 5 p.m.
