High school football season kicks off in Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 23, and with it returns the Upper Cumberland Reporter Game of the Week.
UCR is set to open their GOTW slate with a pair of rivalry showdowns on the west end of our coverage area as Smith County hosts Gordonsville on Friday, Aug. 23, followed by Macon County hosting Westmoreland on Saturday, Aug. 24, with both games kicking off at 7 p.m.
Smith County defeated Gordonsville 25-19 last season on their way to a 10-3 overall record and Region 3-2A championship while Gordonsville finished 8-5 and won Region 4-1A.
Macon County opened their 2023 campaign with a 33-13 victory at Westmoreland last season before going 11-2 overall and advancing to the Class 4A state quarterfinals while Westmoreland went 5-6 overall.
