Stone Memorial High School senior Adyson Bennett made her college plans official Friday morning as she signed her letter of intent with Maryville College volleyball.
“It’s super exciting,” said Bennett. “I honestly wouldn’t have pictured myself here four years ago. I actually planned on playing soccer in high school, but coach Tori Permenter wanted me to come to tryouts and it was something I was interested in.”
Bennett signed during a ceremony in the SMHS library.
“It was really nice to have all of my family and friends come together,” said Bennett. “It’s nice to know there’s a lot of people supporting me.
Maryville is an NCAA Division III program competing in the Collegiate Conference of the South.
“Maryville is a really faith-driven school, and that was one of the most important things to me,” said Bennett. “Coach Brienna Laskowski was my club coach and she wanted me to come to a camp and liked what she saw. It felt like the right choice.”
Bennett is signing as a libero for the Scots.
“It’s super exciting,” said Stone Memorial head coach Tori Permenter. “Maryville was her #1 choice and she didn’t settle. She’s a hard worker and leads us in defense. She’s been a leader on the team for years and a great role model. She’s so competitive and always wants to get better.”
Bennett’s signing comes in the middle of her senior volleyball season for the Lady Panthers, who are currently atop the District 7-2A standings.
“She verbally committed in the summer,” said Permenter. “She is so driven that it changes nothing for her. She wants to win and is never satisfied.”
