Week 6 2024 Picks
Noah 49-4 (8-1)
Justin 47-6 (8-1)
Goose 46-7 (8-1)
Jacob 44-9 (7-2)
GOTW: Stone Memorial (3-2) at DeKalb County (5-0)
Noah: DeKalb County 27-20
These two teams and coaches always seem to have great games. The weather presents questions for both teams who are capable of airing it out. This is a big test against a 4A team for the undefeated Tigers and the Panthers will be desperate for a win to keep their realistic playoff hopes intact. Ultimately, I think Jordan Parker puts on a show and the Tigers make one more play to get to 6-0.
Jacob: DeKalb County 35-28
Jordan Parker and the DeKalb County Tigers have been a welcome surprise this season. A team that we didn’t exactly know what we were getting from in the offseason. The Tigers have looked dominant offensively and now get their biggest test in region play at the midway point. It’s a game that Stone has to win to keep their playoff chances alive, but I think the combination of the weather and Jordan Parker will give the home team the edge.
Justin: DeKalb County 28-26
DeKalb County enters this game undefeated, and I see the Tigers pulling out a narrow win over Stone in what has been one of the closest series in the Upper Cumberland in recent years. Weather will play a factor on Thursday.
Goose: Dekalb County 21-20
In a series that’s been decided by 6 whole points the last 4 years, DeKalb County hosts Stone Memorial with monumental playoff implications on the line. A rain-soaked field could play a factor on Thursday in Smithville, so I’m excited to see how these coaches scheme up ways to get their offenses moving in the potential downpour. I’ll take the Class 4A top-10 Tigers in a nail-biter.
White County (3-2) at Macon County (4-1)
Noah: Macon County 20-12
The weather will be the biggest factor in this football game. That will limit the scoring, maybe even beyond where I have it. It’s gut-check time for the Warriors, but I think Macon County is a top-4 4A team in this state. I expect a better effort from the Warriors, but an elite Tigers team to earn the win.
Jacob: Macon County 19-8
White County is looking for a big bounceback, but have to face the second best team in this region. I’d expect Tripp Pinion to keep the ball on the ground a lot in this game (especially with the impending weather). However, the Tigers have been cruising since their loss to the Bees and that may have been the spark they needed to really get going. Expect this one to be an all out war in the mud. I think Macon’s horses are just a bit faster in Sparta.
Justin: Macon 35-13
Macon County rolls into Sparta red-hot and should keep the train rolling against a White County team really needing a bounce back. The Borders twins are hard enough to tackle under normal circumstances, and hurricane-level rains could make the playing surface a nightmare in Sparta.
Goose: Macon County 34-21
Another game with massive playoff impactions as Macon County hits the road to White County. The Warriors were hit hard by Upperman last week, but I don’t think that game signifies who White County is. The Warriors should get off the mat and get up for a big-time challenge in Macon County, but the battle-tested Tigers are a formidable foe in Class 4A and should hold off White County.
Livingston Academy (3-2) at York Institute (2-2)
Noah: York 33-6
York looks like a completely new football team after their early off week. I love the way they’re playing defense and protecting the football on offense. Livingston got hit hard by a key injury which does change my score prediction. York’s run game should help them limit the ill-effects of the weather in this one, as long as they can still protect the football.
Jacob: York 20-6
The Dragons have looked miles better these last two weeks with wins against Bledsoe and Tellico Plains. The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for York. They aren’t turning the ball over and getting back to their roots defensively. It comes at a bad time for the Wildcats who now have to change their offense with the absence of Adrian Jenkins at QB. I think the Dragons take care of business and win their third game in a row.
Justin: York 36-6
Coach Wright has the Jamestown boys dialed in at the right time of the season and they should take care of business on The Mountain Friday evening.
Goose: York 35-14
A monsoon plays into York Institute’s football philosophy perfectly on Friday as the Dragons are built to withstand adverse conditions. Livingston has been playing better football this season, but breaking in a new offensive identity midway through the season at a physical York Institute doesn’t bode well for Hogeye. Give me the Dragons.
Cookeville (4-1) at Warren County (0-5)
Noah: Cookeville 41-0
Get-right spot for the Cavs ahead of Gallatin next week.
Jacob: Cookeville 47-0
Cavs bounce back in a big way on the road and get a little healthier for Gallatin next week.
Justin: Cookeville 48-0
Cookeville’s trip to Warren County comes at a good time in the schedule.
Goose: Cookeville 48-6
Cumberland County (2-3) at Upperman (5-0)
Noah: Upperman 48-0
Best team in the state doing best team in the state things.
Jacob: Upperman 40-0
Bees continue their dominance and show their multiplicity on offense in another big win.
Justin: Upperman 42-0
Upperman does what Upperman does to get to 6-0.
Goose: Upperman 48-7
The Bees are on another planet this season and should continue their undefeated regular season with a Region 4-4A victory over the Jets.
Monterey (2-3) at Gordonsville (4-1)
Noah: Gordonsville 40-13
Jacob: Gordonsville 34-13
Justin: Gordonsville 41-14
Goose: Gordonsville 27-20
Trousdale County (0-4) at Jackson County (3-2)
Noah: Jackson County 33-0
Jacob: Jackson County 34-6
Justin: Jackson County 42-0
Goose: Jackson County 35-7
Clay County (3-2) at Monroe County (KY)
Noah: Clay County 20-12
Jacob: Clay County 27-6
Justin: Clay County 27-20
Goose: Clay County 21-13
Red Boiling Springs (2-3) at Perry County (1-4)
Noah: Perry County 27-6
Jacob: Perry County 34-13
Justin: Perry County 27-6
Goose: Perry County 21-6
East Robertson (5-0) at Smith County (1-4)
Noah: East Robertson 27-12
Jacob: East Robertson 26-6
Justin: East Robertson 34-14
Goose: East Robertson 34-7
