The Gordonsville Tigerette volleyball team opened the final week of the regular season with a non-district win as they swept Livingston Academy in a best-of-three match by scores of 25-19 and 25-14.
“After a slow start, we got it in gear,” said Gordonsville head coach Brian Leslie. “We passed the ball pretty well and my outside hitters did a really good job of putting the ball down. I had several really good serves tonight also from Melinda Holder”
Livingston opened the first set with a 5-1 lead before Gordonsville rattled off 11 consecutive points to take a 12-5 advantage over the Lady Wildcats. The Tigerettes held their lead throughout the rest of the first set to win by a 25-19 margin.
Gordonsville jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the second set before pushing their lead out t0 21-9 via an Emma Crawford ace. Back-to-back aces from Paisley Underwood followed by an Ashlyn Naylor kill secured the 25-14 victory in the second set for the Tigerettes as they won the match 2-0.
Monday’s match was a fundraiser for Breast Cancer awareness that raised over $900 for cancer victims in the area.
“We’ve been doing this for several years,” said Leslie. “We’ve got two officials, June Smith and Carol Duke, who donate their time so that all the money raised can go to a few people in the community that are dealing with Breast Cancer and deal with whatever expenses.
Both teams will wrap up the regular season this week before advancing to their respective district tournaments. Gordonsville hosts Smith County on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and travels to Upperman on Thursday while Livingston Academy hosts Jackson County on Tuesday and Trousdale County on Thursday.
