Cookeville High School’s Owen Hill is returning from Sevierville Golf Club with some hardware as he won the Class AA boys state golf championship Friday afternoon with a two-day score of -5.
Hill shot a 69 (-3) in Thursday’s opening round with 5 birdies and a 70 (-2) on Friday in the second round. Hill defeated Paige High School’s Laird Williams by a single stroke (-4).
Hill’s individual state championship highlights a week of golfers from the Upper Cumberland competing at state. DeKalb County’s Chloe Boyd finished second overall in the Class AA girls competition with a two-day total of +5. Macon County’s Mattie Goad placed 10th at +11.
Macon County’s Maddox Crowder shot a +4 over the two-day tournament to finish 10th in the Class AA boys tournament.
In Class A, Smith County’s Landyn Kent placed 9th overall with a two-day total of +25 followed by Pickett County’s Kaycee Ludick in 13th at +33.
