York Institute senior point guard Reese Beaty scored 26 points Tuesday night in only her second game back from offseason surgery as she led the Dragonettes to a 75-46 victory at Stone Memorial.

“I don’t think it’s going to take (Reese) very long to get back in the flow,” said York head coach Michael Green. “She’s not too far from where she left off. We wanted to play faster and did a pretty good job at that. Any time you can beat Stone, it’s a good win.”

Along with Beaty’s 26 points, Emma Cooper scored 17 points while Emma Pile hit 5 three-pointers on her way to 15 points in the victory.

Four of Pile’s three-pointers came in the first quarter along with two from Beaty and one by Cali Franklin as York took a 25-13 lead after one period. The Dragonettes extended their lead to 46-28 by halftime.

The second half resembled the first as York outscored Stone Memorial 20-8 in the frame to take a 66-36 lead into the fourth before winning by a 75-46 final score.

York Institute improves to 16-5 overall and returns to District 5-2A play on Friday when they host Watertown (17-4, 3-1). Stone Memorial hosts District 7-3A foe Upperman (20-4).

The Stone Memorial Panthers (17-6, 4-1) got back in the win column on Tuesday as they cruised to a 70-31 victory over York Institute in non-district play.

Cade Capps led the Panthers with 20 points while Jack Cordell followed with 16 and Kadyn Page with 8.

“We’re just trying to stay sharp this time of year,” said Stone Memorial head coach Neil Capps. “They (York) are starting three freshmen and building for the future. You can tell they’ve gotten better through the season. That’s a testament to coach Rodney Pile.”

Stone Memorial jumped out to an 18-9 lead after one quarter before going up 37-16 by halftime. The Panthers controlled the second half to cruise to a 70-31 victory.

Up next for York is a home game on Friday against Watertown in District 5-2A play. Up next for the Panthers is a showdown in Crossville with the Class 3A #1-ranked Upperman Bees (18-2, 5-0). Upperman won their previous meeting 62-45 in Baxter.

“They are really good and have one of the best coaches in Tennessee in Bobby McWilliams,” said Capps. “You have to go beat them; they’re not going to beat themselves. They’re going to find ways to win games, and you don’t become #1-ranked in the state by accident.”
