Boys high school basketball region semifinal action took place across Tennessee Tuesday night with four Upper Cumberland programs clinching region championship berths and sectional appearances for a shot at the TSSAA state tournament.
Breakdown by region:
Region 4-1A
#1 Pickett County defeated #3 Gordonsville, 79-44, behind 26 points from Mr. Basketball finalist Jacob Amonett.
#2 Clay County defeated #1 Jo Byrns, 64-57. Nolan Adams led the way with 19 points along with 16 from Lance Burchett and 14 from Nate Adams.
Clay County and Pickett County will face off in the Region 4-1A championship game on Thursday at Livingston Academy at 7 p.m. Both teams have clinched a spot in next Monday’s Class 1A sectional round against either Chattanooga Prep (19-7) or Van Buren County (18-11).
Region 3-2A
#1 Jackson County defeated #2 Westmoreland, 42-33. 1st Team All-Upper Cumberland selection Will McCrary led the Blue Devils with 20 points.
Jackson County will face Liberty Creek in Thursday’s Region 3-2A championship game at Monterey at 7 p.m. Jackson County also advances to Monday’s Class 2A sectional round, where they’ll face either East Nashville (15-10) or LEAD Academy (17-11).
Region 4-3A
#1 Upperman defeated #2 Giles County, 54-33, behind 21 points from Bronzden Chaffin and 20 points by UCR Player of the Year Ty Cobb.
Upperman will face Tullahoma in the Region 4-3A championship on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cookeville High School. Upperman will also play in Monday’s Class 3A sectional round against either Heritage (25-7) or Lenoir City (12-18).
