The Upperman Bees won their third consecutive game Friday afternoon as they traveled to Carthage and defeated the Class 2A #4-ranked Smith County Owls 12-1 in 5 innings.
Upperman totaled 11 hits on the day including a home run each from Braden Green and Justin Fallon. Green went 4-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs while Fallon was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs.
Chris Wirsing earned the win on the mound as he surrendered only 2 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings.
The Bees went to work early in the top of the first inning as a Wirsing double scored Green followed by a Carson Shupe grounder to score Fallon.
Smith County answered in the bottom of the first as Bennett Gammon sent a solo homer to center field to make the score 2-1 after the first.
The Bees tacked on a pair of runs in the second inning via an Evan Huddleston single and Green’s homer to take a 4-1 advantage. Upperman put the game out of reach with six runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead before Fallon’s two-run homer in the top of the fifth secured the 12-1 mercy-rule victory for Baxter.
Upperman is back in action at noon on Saturday at home against Friendship Christian.
