Cookeville, Van Buren County, White County and York Institute are headed to the Glass House to compete in next week’s TSSAA state girls basketball tournament following their respective semifinal victories on Saturday.
Cookeville
Regulation wasn’t enough to determine a winner in Saturday’s Cookeville/Cleveland Class 4A sectional game, but the Lady Cavaliers prevailed in overtime thanks to a pair of Charlie Roby free throws with 3.9 seconds remaining. Cookeville’s sectional victory clinches their third state tournament berth in four seasons under head coach Jamie Gillies.
The Lady Cavs are set to face Lincoln County (25-9) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Class 4A quarterfinals.
Van Buren County
Van Buren County hit the road in the Class 1A sectional and defeated Clarkrange, 56-51, behind 18 points from Cara Mills and 16 points each by Abigail Netherton and Emma Gammon. The Eaglettes overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half to clinch their victory.
Van Buren County will kick off 2025 state tournament action as they’re set to play in the first game on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. against Middle College (25-9).
