The two-time defending Class 1A state champion Gordonsville Tigerettes picked up a pair of District 7-1A victories Monday night at Crump Paris Park as they defeated Clarkrange 17-2 and 16-0.
“We’ve been able to hit some homers and get on the board early,” said Gordonsville head coach Jonathan Bush. ”
Sophomore Callie Dillard earned both victories in the circle as she struck out 10 batters while surrendering 2 hits in 4 combined innings of work.
Dillard is currently 9-0 as a starter while she shares pitching duties with University of Tennessee signee and reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Kailey Plumlee.
“We’ve pitched Callie a lot this year,” said Bush. “As a sophomore, she’s done well for us.”
Plumlee went to work at the plate as she went 3-3 with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored in the victories. Abby Brinkley went 2-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored in game one while Camri Johnson and Kat Johnson each tacked on a triple. Senior catcher Bailey Stewart hit a triple and drove in a run during game two.
Gordonsville’s wins over Clarkrange were their 8th and 9th consecutive victories to improve to 16-1 overall. Up next for the Tigerettes is a trip to Celina for a district showdown with Clay County on Tuesday before traveling to Upperman on Wednesday.
“We’re facing a pretty good team in Clay County,” said Bush. “We’ve played some very good competition up to this point; we’re happy with where we are but there’s always room for improvement. Next week is a big week; we have Smyrna at Cumberland University on Monday and Smith County on Wednesday.”
