The Cookeville Cavaliers opened the week in the win column Tuesday evening as they defeated District 7-4A foe LaVergne (8-6) in 5 innings, 18-3.
Cookeville hit four home runs in the victory led by KJ Anderson with two along with one from Evan Allen and Ty Harrison. Anderson and Allen each went 3-4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Anderson hit two homers and a double.
Cookeville went to work early as the Cavaliers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Anderson kicked the rally off with a double to score Allen followed by a two-run bomb from Harrison.
A Landen Severance single and LaVergne error two batters later drove in two more runs before a Davidson sacrifice fly gave Cookeville a 6-0 lead with two outs in the frame.
An Allen single to center scored Tyler Smith before Anderson stepped to the plate and hit his first home run of the evening to right to give Cookeville a 10-0 lead after one.
The Cavaliers tacked on a run in the second inning before Allen and Anderson opened the bottom of the third with back-to-back solo home runs to give Cookeville a 13-1 lead. The Cavs scored 4 more runs in the third and another in the fourth to win by an 18-3 final score in 5 innings.
Cookeville improves t0 8-4 overall and travels to LaVergne this afternoon for game two against the Wildcats at 6 p.m.
