The DeKalb County Tigerettes clinched their second consecutive trip to the Region 4-3A tournament championship and Class 3A sectional round on Monday as they defeated Marshall County, 4-0.
Inclement weather delayed Monday’s start by an hour and forced the contest to end early after 6 innings.
Senior lefty pitcher Kora Kilgore led the way for DeKalb County as she struck out 12 batters while surrendering only 1 hit and 0 walks in 6 complete innings. Kilgore went 1-2 with an RBI and a double at the plate while Tatum Young drove in 2 runs.
The Tigerettes opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning via a Young bunt and Marshall County error followed by a Zayleigh Bain sacrifice bunt.
DeKalb County tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth via a Young bunt for a single followed by a Kilgore double, giving the Tigerettes a 4-0 lead.
Monday’s win clinches DeKalb County’s berth in the Region 4-3A championship on Wednesday at Lawrence County High School at 6 p.m. Regardless of Wednesday’s outcome, DeKalb County will play in the Class 3A sectional round on Saturday against either Heritage, Soddy Daisy or Lenoir City.
