This week’s guest picker is area photographer, recent Tennessee Tech graduate and the new head coach of Upperman Lacrosse Jonathan Aldrich.
Farragut (2-5) at Cookeville (1-6) (Mayberry’s GOTW)
Noah: Farragut 27-20
The Admirals are a balanced attack and seem to have figured out some things ahead of their OFF week. The Cavaliers are still looking to put four complete quarters together, so for now I’ll take the road team.
Jacob: Farragut 35-28
Both teams coming off so the start will be important in this one for both sides. Farragut won two games going into the bye while the Cavaliers lost two in a row. Both teams look very similar on film and have a lot of the same attributes. I think Farragut’s recent success spills into this week on the road.
Justin: Cookeville 35-34
Cookeville was finding their footing offensively before the bye week, and I think it carries over tonight and they get a big win.
Goose: Farragut 28-21
Farragut has played a gauntlet of a schedule so far, and I got to see the Admirals in person against Upperman. I think they’re a steady team and better than their record indicates. This should be a tough, hard-nosed football game that goes down to the final possession.
Jonathan: Cookeville 28-27
Although Farragut is on a 2-game win streak, Cookeville gets a much needed mental and physical reset during their fall break, and add a win in a shootout with the admirals. I think this game will come down to who controls the line of scrimmage, and I project Cookeville has a solid performance up front to help them take this one at home.
Macon County (5-2) at Barren County, KY (3-4) (UCR2)
Noah: Barren County 28-21
A lot of unknowns against a KY team here, but Barren County has a lot of size and speed, and speed has given the Tigers some problems the past couple of weeks. I do expect this to be a tight game throughout.
Jacob: Barren County 21-14
The Tigers have lost back to back games for the first time since 2019 and haven’t lost three in a row since 2017. The bye came at a great time for Macon County and we’ll see if they were able to get a little fresher heading into week nine. Barren County’s size will pose a problem and they’re pretty stingy defensively. I’ll take the home team in a toss up game.
Justin: Macon County 33-14
Macon County found something offensively before the bye week and that should carry over. And come on, a team from Tennessee isn’t losing to a team from Kentucky in football.
Goose: Macon County 31-24
Barren County might be 3-4 overall, but they’re way better than their record indicates. Each of those losses have come to top-100 teams in Kentucky and the Trojans have shown plenty of potential offensively. Macon County had a good offensive showing against a good Stone Memorial team, and that will need to continue this week up in Kentucky.
Jonathan: Macon County 28-17
I see Macon eager to win after two rough losses going into their bye, and although Barren County has some real deal size to their team, the Tigers find a way to take control of this game in the second half.
Clay County (6-1) at Red Boiling Springs (0-7)

Justin: Clay County 45-7
Goose: Clay County 49-6
Jonathan: Clay County 42-6
Copper Basin (2-5) at Pickett County (0-7)

Jonathan: Copper Basin 38-7
