The Upperman Lady Bees are District 7-2A champions following a pair of sweeps in the tournament semifinals and championship matches Tuesday in Baxter. The Lady Bees opened the day with a 3-0 win over Livingston Academy while Stone Memorial defeated Cumberland County in 5 sets in the second semifinal game, setting up Stone Memorial/Upperman in the championship.
The Lady Bees took care of business in the championship match as they won the first set 25-19 and the second 25-14 before finishing off the sweep of the Lady Panthers with a 25-17 victory.
Upperman’s Emery Huddleston was named tournament MVP along with Emma Pruitt, Shayla Burchett and Bailey West making the all-tournament team. Stone Memorial’s Dalayna Inman, Marley Bowers and Sadie Howard made the all-tournament team.
Stone Memorial and Upperman advance to next week’s Region 4-2A semifinals against the District 8-2A champion Central Magnet and runners-up Forrest. The entire Region 4-2A tournament will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Upperman High School with the first game beginning at 4:30 p.m.
