The Gordonsville Tigers finished out their 2025 football season Friday evening in the Class 2A quarterfinals as they were defeated at defending Class 2A state champion Marion County, 42-14.
Gordonsville finishes the season 12-1 overall and champions of Region 4-2A with an undefeated regular season. The Tigers went a perfect 7-0 at home and undefeated in region play.
The Warriors led 7-0 after one quarter and struck early in the second period to take a 14-0 lead over the Tigers. Gordonsville responded on the ensuing drive as senior quarterback J Foster hit sophomore receiver Camrix Stott on a 48-yard touchdown pass with 7:51 remaining in the second quarter to pull within a score at 14-7.
The Tigers weren’t done in the first half as they marched down the field late in the second quarter to set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Lee Scurlock to tie the game at 14-14 at halftime.
Marion County opened the second half strong as they rushed in a 62-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to take a 21-14 lead 20 seconds into the third quarter. Gordonsville drove into the red zone on their first drive of the third quarter, but Marion County’s defense held as they stopped the Tigers at the 19-yard line via a turnover on downs. The Warriors found the end zone on their next drive to take a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers again drove deep into Warrior territory in the fourth quarter as they made it to the Marion County 12-yard line with 9:50 remaining, but a forward lateral on second down was ruled a fumble recovered by Marion County to give the Warriors possession.
Marion County put the game on ice from there as they scored twice over the next three minutes to win by a 42-14 final score.
